Open Question: Our Childhood in Black and White. Do you remember?
Loved this e-mail I just received. Anyone else remember this?

TV – You could hardly see for all the snow,
Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.
Pull a chair up to the TV set,
‘Good Night, David. Good Night, Chet.’

My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn’t seem to get food poisoning.

My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter AND I used to eat it raw sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice-pack coolers, but I can’t remember getting e.coli.

Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.

The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.

We all took gym, not PE . and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked’s (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can’t recall any injuries, but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.

Flunking gym was not an option, even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.

Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention.

We must have had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything.

I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself.

I just can’t recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations.

Oh yeah … and where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed!

We played ‘king of the hill’ on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of Mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn’t sting like iodine did) and then we got our butt spanked. Now it’s a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $49 bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.

We didn’t act up at the neighbor’s house either because if we did, we got our butt spanked there and then we got butt spanked again when we got home.

I recall a friend from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front step, just before he fell off Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house. Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof. It was a neighborhood run amuck.

To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family. How could we possibly have known that?

We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes? We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills that we didn’t even notice that the entire country wasn’t taking Prozac! How did we ever survive?

LOVE TO ALL OF US WHO SHARED THIS ERA, AND TO ALL WHO DIDN’T; SORRY FOR WHAT YOU MISSED. I WOULDN’T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING.

Pass this to someone and remember that life’s most simple pleasures are very often the best.
Montague – what a stick in the mud you are. If you don’t remember any of this, why bother even answering? It has nothing to do with your generation anyway.

Open Question: Another story? Hope you enjoy it.?
Just a little song fic I wrote, the song is Famous Last Words by My Chemical Romance.

I’m only 12, so accept mistakes.

Features Draco Malfoy and unnamed girlfriend.

Please give criticism/comments.

He looked down at their clasped hands, her face, once radiant with joy and hope, now creased and tearstained with sadness. He pulled his hand away, and stared at her. His usually soft hair hung lank and greasy in front of his eyes, drenched in sweat, and he brushed it away, exposing eyes emotionless and cold, without their usual longing, the emerald green turned to inky darkness by the pain.
‘I have to leave you.’ he said, quietly, in a monotone.

Now I know that I can’t make you stay
But where’s your heart?
But where’s your heart?
But where’s your?

‘You’ve changed.’ she whispered hoarsely. ‘Part of you has changed. I don’t know if it could come back. I know I can’t change it. I don’t know if anyone can.’

And I know there’s nothing I could say
To change that part
To change that part
To change

Draco stepped away from her, and disapparated, letting his brain triumph over his heart, as each fought to voice their opinion. Dropping to his knees in the small, heavily illuminated room he had just appeared in, he felt as if part of his life had been torn from him; excruciating pain spread through his entire body and he had to fight the urge to return.

So many bright lights to cast a shadow, but can I speak?
Well, is it hard understanding I’m incomplete
A life that’s so demanding, I get so weak
A love that’s so demanding, I can’t speak

He hadn’t done what had been required of him; why had he returned? He was not quite sure, and heaved his aching body up from the floor, cringing with the pain, willing himself to be strong. If only she would come with him, but she refused, though he had asked her many a time. She had tried to stop him, but it was futile. He was returning, with or without her.

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey, if you stay I’ll be forgiven
Nothing you could say can stop me going home

His eyes stung with tears and a lump rose in his throat. Would he see her again? Would he be allowed to? Would she want to see him again? He tried to visualize her, wanting to see and feel and smell her, so familiar and warm and loving and comforting. He sought solace in her warm embrace.

Can you see my eyes are shining bright?
Cause I’m out here on the other side
Of a jet black hotel mirror and I’m so weak
Is it hard understanding I’m incomplete?
A love that’s so demanding I get weak

He heard an unnaturally high male voice call him, in a slippery, persuasive tone.
‘Yes, master?’ he replied, fighting to keep his voice level, stumbling towards the pale figure. Why hadn’t he taken the protection he had been offered; why had he not stayed with her? He had not been afraid, although maybe he had been, but had tried desperately to convince himself otherwise. He hadn’t needed to return home, but had done so, perhaps even of his own free will.

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey, if you stay I’ll be forgiven
Nothing you could say can stop me going home

He was afraid now, that he was certain of. He was afraid of his death. The prospect of living cheered him, for he knew that if he became deceased then she would sink into a state of depression, even further than she already was. He couldn’t let that happen. He had to live.

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey, if you stay I’ll be forgiven
Nothing you could say can stop me going home

He had never really given dying a lot of thought before. He had been distracted by other things. Maybe he had tried purposely to distract himself, as he did now, staring at the little illuminated balls of light, dizzying his senses and lulling him into a false sense of comfort.

These bright lights have always blinded me
These bright lights have always blinded me
I say

He remembered those nights spent at the lake, both awake but dreaming, laid on the soft grassy banks, communicating, but without words. It would have seemed to people who passed them that they were asleep or dead, rather than simply dreaming and thinking.

I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I’d never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead

Already he had to resist spinning on his heel and returning to that special place that they shared. Part of him knew she would be there, staring at that empty spot usually occupied by his own slim frame.

Cause I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I’d never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead

Still walking towards the man that had called him, stumbling and tripping, he drifted in and out of consciousness, dreaming of those days. He knew, deep within his heart, that in only a few moments he would lose any chance of experiencing them again.

Open Question: What to fill favors with?
I am using these little silver pails as wedding favors (see link below). I We are having a beach theme wedding in front of the lake in our backyard, so they tie in nicely with our theme. I am not sure what to fill them with though. I can’t use anything Chocolate, or any other candy that will melt. I have thought of using either Chex Mix, Trail Mix or filling them half full with sand and sticking suckers in them. My issue with that is 90% of our guest are adults and probably don’t want a bunch of dum dums take home:)
If anyone could give me some other, better ideas I would greatly appreciate it!
I love the idea of the sapling, however I am doing 300 buckets and I think that may get pretty expensive!!
OOPS! forgot the link:)
